The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are making Antoine Winfield the highest-paid defensive back in NFL history. The All-Pro safety agreed to a four-year, $84.1 million deal that includes $45 million fully guaranteed, his agents confirmed to NFL Network on Monday. It marks the first time in NFL history that a safety is the league's highest-paid defensive back, per NFL Network. At $21.025 million per season, Winfield's deal tops the $21 million average annual value for Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander. The league's second-highest-paid safety is Derwin James of the Los Angeles Chargers with an AAV of $19.133 million, per Spotrac. Winfield, 25, made the All-Pro first team in 2023 with a league-high six forced fumbles, and career highs in sacks (six), tackles (122) and interceptions (three) in 17 starts. He has seven interceptions, 11 forced fumbles, 15 sacks and 384 tackles in 59 games (all starts) since Tampa Bay drafted him in the second round in 2020. Winfield is represented by David Mulugheta of Athletes First. --Field Level Media

WEST DES MOINES — Many health risks — like sitting too much, eating unhealthy foods and smoking — can be avoided. Other health threats — like not being able to get certain prescription medicines — are out of our control and can wreak havoc.

The Iowa Beef Industry Council and the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association are proud to announce the 15th Annual Iowa’s Best Burger Contest. Nominations will be taken from Monday, February 12 to Tuesday, March 12.

A tiny, low-priced electric vehicle called the Seagull has American automakers and politicians trembling. The car, launched last year by Chinese automaker BYD, sells for around $12,000 in China. But it drives well and is put together with craftsmanship that rivals U.S.-made electric vehicles that cost three times as much. Tariffs on imported Chinese vehicles probably will keep the Seagull away from America’s shores for now. But the rapid emergence of low-priced EVs from China could shake up the global auto industry in ways not seen since Japanese makers arrived during the oil crises of the 1970s.

The fourth week of witness testimony in Donald Trump's hush money trial could be a doozy. Trump’s former lawyer and personal fixer Michael Cohen has taken the stand as the trial entered its fourth week Monday. Prosecutors have spent weeks building up a case that largely hinges on record-keeping. Witnesses, text messages, notes and audio recordings have taken center stage to illustrate what prosecutors have said was a scheme to illegally influence the 2016 presidential election by buying and burying negative stories that might hurt Trump's campaign. The former president is accused of falsifying internal business records to cover up hush money payments by logging them as legal expenses. He has pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts.

U.S. stocks drifted to a mixed close near their record heights. The S&P 500 ended little changed Monday and is less than 1% below its record set at the end of March. The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 0.2%, and the Nasdaq composite edged up 0.3%. Stocks have rallied this month on revived hopes that inflation may ease enough to convince the Federal Reserve to cut its main interest rate later this year. A key test will arrive Wednesday, when the government offers an update on inflation. GameStop and other meme stocks soared. Treasury yields eased in the bond market.

RAFAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — Aid workers struggled Monday to distribute dwindling food and other supplies to hundreds of thousands of Palestinians displaced by what Israel says is a limited military operation in Rafah, as the two main crossings near the southern Gaza city remained closed.

Fire experts and officials are warning that an intense wildfire could reach a town in western Canada this week. There are forecasts of strong winds that have fueled the out-of-control blaze approaching Fort Nelson in British Columbia. Thousands of people have evacuated. A local official said Monday that emergency crews are preparing for a “last stand” as dozens of remaining residents are urged to leave. The blaze is one of several out-of-control wildfires in western Canada threatening communities in provinces such as Alberta and Manitoba. Drought has made the fires worse.

Ukrainian officials and commanders say Russian troops are locked in intense battles with Ukrainian soldiers in the embattled town of Vovchansk and are pushing ahead with a ground offensive that opened a new front to put pressure on overstretched Ukrainian forces.  Moscow’s renewed northeast offensive, launched late last week, is the most significant border incursion since the full-scale invasion began. By Monday, only 200 to 300 residents remained inside Vovchansk, said Kharkiv Gov. Oleh Syniehubov, as Russian forces closed in from three sides. By intensifying offensive operations, Russia seeks to stretch Ukraine’s forces thin and forge breakthroughs ahead of the arrival of much-needed new munitions from the U.S.  and European allies, not expected to reach the battlefield for two months.
