German tennis legend Boris Becker has been discharged from bankruptcy court in London after a judge found he had done “all that he reasonably could do” to repay his creditors. High Court Judge Nicholas Briggs said in a ruling Wednesday that it would be “perverse” not to end the case. Creditors say Becker still owed about 42 million pounds ($52.5 million) over an unpaid loan of more than 3 million pounds ($3.75 million) on his estate in Mallorca, Spain. Becker served 8 months in a London prison for illicitly transferring large amounts of money and hiding 2.5 million pounds ($3.1 million) from bankruptcy trustees.

The University of Houston has executed a reverse by informing the NFL that it plans to proceed with adding an alternate uniform that features the Columbia blue color scheme. The decision comes approximately six months after the NFL's merchandising and licensing division threatened legal action in a cease-and-desist letter, citing the school's "blatant copying" of the old Houston Oilers. The Cougars initially wore their Columbia blue uniforms in a 17-14 season-opening win over Texas-San Antonio on Sept. 2, 2023. "We literally have a story we can show the city uses it," athletic director Chris Pezman told the Houston Chronicle. "This isn't a reach. This is a layup. We've got a very defensible position." Pezman also added, "We're doing it. We've reviewed everything and come to the conclusion that we are going to proceed." Per Pezman, Houston has informed the NFL of its decision. "We're giving them two or three weeks to respond," Pezman said. "We're waiting on a response to see if we get one." The Houston Texans unveiled four variations of new uniforms on April 23. One of those variations included a light blue helmet as part of its Color Rush look, complete with "H-Town" on the front of its uniforms. The Texans also featured a light blue "H" that is outlined in red on a dark blue helmet. Last October, the NFL sent a letter to the university that said in part that "the Houston Cougars' attempt to free ride on the popularity of the NFL and the club violates the intellectual property rights of the NFL and (Tennessee) Titans." --Field Level Media

What would you do if you were given an extra day? How would you celebrate those extra moments? Would you start the day with a cup of coffee or a meditative walk watching the sunrise and ending with a great meal and a table full of loved ones at sunset? Would you make time to have lunch with …

Pro-Palestinian protests have been cleared from the University of California, Los Angeles, and Columbia University in New York. Dueling groups of protesters clashed early Wednesday at UCLA in confrontations that included fistfights, shoving, kicking and beating each other with sticks. UCLA canceled classes Wednesday. Late Tuesday, police burst into a Columbia University building occupied by pro-Palestinian protesters and broke up a demonstration that had paralyzed the school. New York City Mayor Eric Adams said Wednesday that police arrested about 300 people at Columbia and City College. Police also cleared an encampment at Tulane University in New Orleans early Wednesday.

Campus police spokesperson Marc Lovicott says four officers were injured Wednesday as police tried to remove protesters’ tents from a central square at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Lovicott said a state trooper was hit in the head with a skateboard and three sheriff’s deputies suffered injuries “directly related to the physical resistance from protesters.” At least a dozen people were arrested. Police removed all but one tent while clashing with the demonstrators. But scores of protesters resumed chanting and, a few hours later, had erected more tents on the square. Lovicott says police plan to continue monitoring the protests.

Workers and activists around the world are marking May Day with largely peaceful rallies against rising prices and calling for greater rights. Pro-Palestinian sentiments are also on display. Police in Istanbul fired rubber bullets to disperse thousands of people who tried to reach the main Taksim square in defiance of a ban. In Paris, some workers set makeshift Olympic rings on fire. In South Korea's capital, thousands of protesters expressed frustration with the government. In Lebanon, people sought the end to a miserable economic crisis. “Tax the rich,” one banner in Germany read. “I want to live, not survive,” read one in France.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has met with Israeli leaders in his push for a cease-fire deal between Israel and Hamas to impress on them that “the time is now" for an agreement that would free hostages and bring a pause in the nearly seven months of war. The current round of talks appears to be serious, with Hamas considering a new proposal. But the sides remain far apart on the key issue of whether the war should end as part of an emerging deal. In talks with Blinken, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu repeated his determination to carry out an offensive on the southern Gaza town of Rafah, where more than a million Palestinians are sheltering.
