GUTHRIE CENTER – The weather put a halt to much of the track action this past week for area teams, as Audubon and Exira-EHK had their chance to run on the Atlantic track, as part of the CAM Cougar Classic was cancelled due to severe storms.

What would you do if you were given an extra day? How would you celebrate those extra moments? Would you start the day with a cup of coffee or a meditative walk watching the sunrise and ending with a great meal and a table full of loved ones at sunset? Would you make time to have lunch with …

Wall Street’s latest losing week looks to be coming to a relatively quiet close. U.S. stocks are drifting in early trading Friday, and oil prices are easing after briefly jumping overnight. The S&P 500 was 0.1% lower and on track for its third straight losing week. That would be its longest such streak since September. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 44 points, and the Nasdaq composite fell 0.4%. Oil prices are edging lower after erasing earlier leaps caused by worries about fighting in the Middle East. Netflix sank after it said it will stop providing quarterly updates on subscriber totals.

Jury selection in the hush money trial of former President Donald Trump is set to resume after a frenetic day that eventually saw all 12 jurors sworn in along with one alternate juror. Lawyers on Friday will focus on selecting five alternates to round out the panel that will decide the first-ever criminal case against a former U.S. president. The case is the first of Trump’s four indictments to reach trial. Trump is accused of falsifying internal business records and making payoffs to two women as part of a scheme to bury stories he worried would hurt his 2016 campaign. He has pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts.

A third panel of potential jurors is set to be questioned in Donald Trump’s hush money case, drawing jury selection a step closer to completion in the first criminal trial of a former U.S. president. After a jury of 12 New Yorkers was seated Thursday, lawyers are now expected to turn their attention to picking remaining alternates who can vow to set aside their personal views and impartially judge the presumptive Republican presidential nominee. After arriving at the courthouse Friday, Trump railed against the gag order imposed by the judge that limits what he can publicly say about witnesses.

An apparent Israeli drone attack on a major air base early near the central city of Isfahan activated Iranian air defenses early Friday. The strike came just days after Tehran’s unprecedented drone-and-missile assault on Israel. Speaking at the G7 meeting in Capri, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said the U.S. received “last-minute” information from Israel about the attack on Isfahan. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken did not dispute that immediately after Tajani’s remarks, but said: “We were not involved in any offensive operations.” The apparent attack came on Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s 85th birthday, with Israeli politicians also making comments hinting that the country had launched an attack.

Israel's national amputee soccer team is heading to France for the 2024 European Amputee Football Championships in June. The team lineup includes two Israeli soldiers who were seriously wounded and lost limbs during the war in Gaza sparked when Hamas militants stormed into southern Israel on Oct. 7. Another team member was wounded in the militants' attack on the Tribe of Nova music festival. Amputee soccer teams have six field players who are missing lower limbs and a goalkeeper with a missing upper extremity. Sixteen teams, mostly from Europe, will participate in the competition.
