What would you do if you were given an extra day? How would you celebrate those extra moments? Would you start the day with a cup of coffee or a meditative walk watching the sunrise and ending with a great meal and a table full of loved ones at sunset? Would you make time to have lunch with …

2022 was a banner year for the hospitality industry in San Antonio, Texas, generating an economic impact of 19 billion dollars. According to a study by Trinity University, that’s up 10% over the previous year, which also experienced a revenge travel bump. The tourist-oriented boom also added $262 million in tax revenues for the city.

Asian shares have advanced even after sinking technology stocks sent Wall Street lower again. U.S. futures were lower, while oil prices gained. On Wednesday, the S&P 500 index dipped 0.6% for its longest losing streak since early January. The Dow Jones Industrial Average edged 0.1% lower, and the Nasdaq composite fell 1.1%. Tech stocks slumped after ASML, a Dutch company that’s a major supplier to the semiconductor industry, reported weaker orders than analysts expected. That helped overshadow stronger quarterly profit reports than expected from United Airlines and other big companies. Treasury yields fell after a sharp tumble in oil prices eased some concerns about inflation.

The Senate has dismissed all impeachment charges against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, ending the House Republican push to remove the Cabinet secretary from office over his handling of the U.S.-Mexico border and ending his trial before arguments even began. Senate Democrats argued that the articles were unconstitutional. The first article charged Mayorkas with “willful and systemic refusal to comply” with immigration law. The second article charged Mayorkas with a “breach of trust” for saying the border was secure. The votes were 51-48 and 51-49, both along party lines. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said the House Republicans’ case failed to meet “the high standard of high crimes and misdemeanors.”

Hugh Grant says he accepted “an enormous sum of money” to settle a lawsuit accusing the publisher of The Sun tabloid of unlawfully tapping his phone, bugging his car and breaking into his home to snoop on him. The actor said Wednesday that he did so reluctantly to avoid potentially hefty legal costs even if he prevailed at trial. His lawyer says court rules that promote settlements could force fellow claimant Prince Harry to also settle. The settlement amount was not disclosed. News Group Newspapers made no admission of liability and says it settled to avoid a costly trial.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says his country will be the one to decide whether and how to respond to Iran’s major air assault over the weekend. Netanyahu's remarks on Wednesday appeared to brush off calls for restraint from close allies, including the visiting foreign ministers of Germany and Britain. Israel has vowed to respond to Iran’s unprecedented attack without saying when or how. That's left the region bracing for further escalation after months of unrest linked to the ongoing war in Gaza. Iran's president warned Israel against responding. Violence meanwhile has continued to surge along Israel's border with Lebanon. A rocket attack on an Israeli town by Iran-backed Hezbollah wounded at least 14 people.
